Valentina Acosta Giraldo’s Parents
She was born in Colombia to loving parents who always took care of her and were compassionate of every choice she made.
Training and Entrance to Archery
Giraldo said that she was inspired by the original novel and film of “The Hunger Games” before she started to learn archery. After getting started in the Colombian National Team, she not only started 4 hours of training every morning at 8 o’clock. As a college student, she used to return to school after training every day.
According to different articles, the training time of Giraldo before the World Youth Archery Championships was double the time than usual, that she received 8 hours of high intensity training every day. After solid and accurate training, she successfully beat other excellent players from several countries and won the 2019 World Archery Youth Championship. Giraldo is planning to participate in the Olympics Games in the future.
But before she was off to Spain winning the gold, two years ago she was at the intersection of where she was in life and which path she wanted to take to be where she wanted to be. She graduated high school at 17, and there she was looking at her life and thinking about what to do. Valentina was stuck between taking the sports up constantly, splitting time between training and studies, or just focus on studies.
Valentina Acosta’s relationship with her family
Commitment and hard work were things embedded in her from a very early age, and when she took the decision of archery, her parents were there to help her in every step of her life. She talked about how people were not glad about the choices she made, but her parents and family were always there to safeguard her and shield her from the outside world while she goes out and learns how to be the best in the field of her choosing. Her parents always told her to “Do what makes you happy and what you love,”.
This is one of the reasons why she was so quick to thank her family after the win in Madrid. Years of hard work paid off big on the global stage, and her parents got to see her on the international stage and stand up with pride as the Colombian national anthem was the only sound coming from the speakers in Madrid after she won.
At this moment, Valentina went with what she adored most, and the pull of the sports was greater than the knowledge of the books. She took up archery, and soon, she was on the international stage, creating history.

Winning the Gold in Madrid
When she was on the way of winning the gold for her passion two years ago, she was at the crossroads of where she was in life and which direction she always wanted to take to be where she wanted to be. She graduated high school at 17, and there she was looking at her life and thinking about what to do. Valentina was stuck between taking the sports up lastingly, splitting time between training and studies, or just focus on studies.
At this twinkling period, Valentina went with what she enjoyed most, and the pull of the sports was greater than the experience of the books. She took up archery, and soon, she was on the international stage, making history.
Before Valentina became the first South American since 2013 to win the world championship, she went through a lot of hard work and coaching. After deciding to continue on her way of Archery, she joined the state team and was trained by the trainers there.
Valentina Acosta Giraldo’s daily training routine
She used to wake up early every day, and by eight, she used to get ready for training in the camp. For four hours, differing levels of training were done, and before she went to the World Championship, her training was raged up to twice a day, and when the statement was made in Madrid, all the hard work and training paid off big time.
Valentina’s route to the final, she went through archers from France, Korea, Germany, and finally met the Mexican finalist Ana Paula Vasquez in the last round. In the finals, she started off with two tens and one nine and never looked back a single time after taking the first set.
After taking the gold medal, Valentina said, “I do not remember much what I felt, I was in another world; I thought, I will not have more nerves, I can rest, be a person again. I wanted to go out and call my parents, ask them if they had seen me.”
Now, she has set her eyes on the Olympics, and if her intention is as true as it was during the finals at Madrid, then soon we will be seeing the talented archer in Japan taking on the best of the best from all over the world.
